2007 Vegetarian Cooking Class

Most Lotus students are very fond of Chinese dishes; many of them are very interested in Chinese cooking and some students who are vegetarian, they all hope to be able to make tasty food by themselves. Lotus Beijing office open a vegetarian cooking class to give students some basic training of Chinese cooking. Then they can enjoy the interesting experience of cooking.
Students are making Beijing traditional food WoTou; people say it is one of the favorite desserts of Empress CIXI in Qing dynasty.

Belgium student Danny was focus on WoTou¡¯s shape; he followed teacher¡¯s instruction step by step with great patience. The best shape of Wotou should be like a small pyramid.

Hot Wotou is done! Made of corn flour they are very low in calorie, and it is a very healthy food.

Students were listening to the cooking skills of the second dish--pineapple meat with sweet sour sauce. Dishes with sweet and sour flavor are very popular in restaurants. The name of this dish is meat; actually this ¡®meat¡¯ is made of Soya bean products. This kind of meat substitution is very common in Chinese vegetarian restaurant.

US student Whitney is making a Wonton.  Students making hundreds of Wonton, good job!

Both of Alex and Philippa are from England, they wrapping the Chinese dumpling.

The shape of dumpling is similar to ancient Chinese gold or silver ingots, they symbolize wealth.
